Mudslide sweeps into Swiss village

"A mudslide has hit the Swiss village of Grugnay in the municipality of Chamoson, sweeping across roads as witnesses stood close by. No injuries were reported as a result of Tuesday's mudslide, which local media said began after storms caused a river to expand and burst its banks."

Mobile phone ringtones have temporarily replaced the sound of bells as renovation work takes place at a church in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The town's Catholic Church decided to involve art students from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences in the renovation of St Peter's Chapel.

The idea of replacing the pealing of bells with mobile phone rings began as a joke, but the project eventually became a reality."

Farmer in Switzerland Discovers Ancient Roman Coins

"BERLIN — Swiss officials say a farmer trying to rid his cherry orchard of a molehill discovered a Roman-era hoard of more than 4,000 coins in excellent condition.

The Aargau canton, west of Zurich, said Thursday that archaeologists were able to recover 4,166 coins, the earliest from A.D. 274, dating to the rule of Emperor Aurelian. It also included coins through the time of Emperor Maximan, from 294.

The coins are primarily of bronze with a high silver content of about 5 per cent. Coin expert Hugo Doppler said they are in such good condition it’s clear they 'were taken out of circulation right after they were minted.'"
